In February 2009, John Doerr was appointed a member of the US President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board. The magazine Forbes has included John in its list of the world’s richest people and the list of the most successful venture investors in new technologies.
John Doerr is a mentor and financier to the founders of Google, Amazon, Intuit, and Sun Microsystems. He intends to win the war against global warming. His arsenal includes the companies Amyris (biofuel and antimalarial medicines), Bloom Energy (fuel elements), and Miasole (solar batteries). John wants people to consider “green” technologies as a long-term venture strategy.
What are “green” technologies? How will they change the world in 15 years? How do “green” technologies influence industry in developed and developing countries? Do they have a place in the market of Russia? What are the basic trends in economically responsible business? Who is making money on green technologies?
These subjects had a light cast on them during John Doerr’s lecture. After the lecture, a discussion took place with the participation of representatives of nongovernmental organizations, development institutes, venture funds, and consulting companies. Mikhail Chuchkevich, managing partner of the company Bright Capital, was the moderator of the discussion.
