On January 18, Dr. Daniel Kraft gave a lecture via teleconference entitled "Digital Doctor in Your Pocket". During his lecture Dr. Kraft discussed the variety of ways in which the exponential development of technology can improve medicine. Some examples of these innovations and changes include: why physicians may increasingly require the use of smart phone technology in diagnostics; how to extract bone marrow in a minimally invasive procedure and the ramifications of this new procedure for stem cell research; how a computer chip can analyze one's urine; how technologies like the Microsoft Kinect can be used diagnose a stroke; and how various organs can be "printed" in the lab using regenerative medicine.
