Ellen Jorgensen

On July 3 Digital October center hosted a lecture by Ellen D. Jorgensen, President and Co-founder of the first US online laboratory Genspace, which provides opportunities of work at their own genetic engineering projects for both professionals and non-professionals.

Ellen D. Jorgensen’s scientific interest are concerned with researches of structure and functions of protein. She received her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the Sackler Institute at New York University School of Medicine in 1987, and went on to continue her researches at SUNY Downstate medical centre in Brooklyn. Since then she has held numerous positions in the biotechnology companies and worked at biomedical researches at nonprofit organizations. In 2009 Jorgensen together with her colleagues founded Genspace, online-laboratory, at which creative and spontaneous approaches to the matter are appraised first of all.

At the lecture that took place at Digital October, broadcast from Ellen D. Jorgensen’s laboratory was organized and Genspace team demonstrated on-line the conduct of some  DNA researches, in particular, sequencing of nucleotides of which DNA consist of. Spectators had the opportunity to see the structure of the laboratory from inside and to take part in experiments directly, together with Genspace researchers.
